Cut out letters: 2D and 3D

Cut out letters make a very elegant statement about you or your product. They remain one of the most impactful forms of signage.
There are two forms of individual cut out letters - "flat" and 3D. The pictures below demonstrates the differences.

Flat letters

As the name suggests these letters or logos are only as thick as the substrate used.
Commonly used substrates are

Aluminium sheet
- Brushed aluminium This has a warmer texture than aluminium sheeting and is very comonly used in indoor signage. It is not as resistant to "touch" as is anodised aluminium.
- Anodised aluminium The natural anodised finished is common, but there is lso the opportuniy to anodise in a wide variety of colours. Anodised aluminum tends to be more robust than untreated aluminium and if the letters are likely to be touched, then this is a good option.
- Spray painted aluminium (used to match an exact colour)
Wood
Wooden cut out letters are usually routered. This enables one to use varing thicknesses of wood board or planking - depending on the effect one wants to achieve. The sign can be varnished or painted depending on the effect required.
Steel
This is usually stainless steel of some variety, although mild steel is equally viable. Mild steel usually requires treatment of some and this can give a very interesting result.
Perspex or acrylic
Acrylics come in a wide variety of colours and a wide variety of interesting designs can be created from these materials.

Raised letters

By raising the sign elements away from the wall - usually using thin steel pins - we create a natural drop shadow. THis gives a feeling of class and luxury to the sign.
It is also quite common to illuminate this style of sign. Today with LED's we are able to create a halo or back lit effect that adds a further dimension to the sign.

3D or Fabricated letters or logos

3D letters are cut out letters that have returns added so that they have "dimension" and that 3D look that is so much admired. The individual sign components have "dimension" that gives a feel of permanance and quality.
Depending on the substrate used, we can also illuminate the signs from within - adding a further level of quality to the overall image.

Ref 106 Category 3D Letters & Logos:
This highly visible, attractive, internal, 3D sign uses a combination of Perspex backing, Perspex cut out letters, digital print and cut out vinyl text to make this sign work well during the day and night.

Ref 310 Category Cut out Letters:
This cost effective, colourful 3D sign is made from individual cut out Perspex elements. The letters are painted black and grey and the logo is decorated with a full colour digital print. The size of the logo necessitated the rear of the logo being re-enforced, which also added strength to the logo.

Ref 300 Category Cut out Letters:
This 3D property identification sign for EDENBURG TERRACES in Rivonia, Sandton is made from 3mm laser cut mild steel that has been painted with automotive paint. The 3D effect is created by the steel letters being installed spaced off the wall.

Ref 305 Category Cut out Letters:
This spectacular, technical, multi dimensional sign for African Airlines Investments, consists of a combination of Aluminium and Perspex with colours provided by a combination of digital printing and paint. All elements are spaced off the wall with the \'wings\' spaced off the wall and some letters in AIRLINES spaced off the wings.

Ref 315 Category Cut out Letters:
This painted, aluminium sign consisting of individual cut out elements is in the full African sun and still looks great after four years. The 3D effect is created by the signage elements being installed spaced off the wall.

Ref 306 Category Cut out Letters:
This flat sign consists of a combination of individual brushed Aluminium cut out letters with a solid ribbon with letters cut out of it. This sign is installed flat against the wall, with the sign being prominent because of the contrast between the brushed Aluminium and the green wall.
